THIRD GRADE
NATIVE AMERICAN STUDIES
HOME PROJECT
You have selected a Native American Tribe to research. Now it is time to research. Your final project will consist of three requirments:
1. A final written report in cursive
2. A visual representation of your tribes way of life.
3. An oral presentation to teach your classmates about your tribe.
Below you will find specifications for each requirement.
1. Final Report
Your final report must be organized in paragraph form based upon the attached outline. Please write neatly, in cursive and use complete sentences. The attached note taking sheet is for your notes and should not be turned in as your final draft.
2. A Visual representation of your tribes way of life. The purpose is to show that the diversity of each tribe is driven primarily by its access to natural resources. This can be accomplished however the student chooses to present this information (poster board with pictures, multimedia presentation, model village, movie, picture book, etc). Traditionally, students build a model village dipicting the type of house their tribe lived in, food they ate, crafts they made. Villages can be created in a shoe box, or on a cardboard or wood base. The village cannot be larger than 12 x12. You may use pictures, printed words, drawings and self made creations. The village, poster board, or other method must reflect the habitat that your tribe survived in and illustrate their culture and way of life. The following aspects must be included:
1. type of houses, 2. materials used for clothing, 3. food, 4. geography - what the land looked like.
You may find information at the library, in a book in class, in the encyclopedia, on the web, or from a personal interview. Please list all resources used.
All work is due on Wednesday, February 8th. Oral presentations will be February 8th - 10th.
