The Wappo lived in the Napa Valley, the north bay and some in the mountains near the Pomo and the Patwin.Fall and late summer was when they got the most food

for winter. Weather was hotter in the spring and summer, but much colder in fall and winter, so they had pretty extreme weather.

Clothing

The clothing of the Wappo was verry simple. Most of the time they didn't even wear cloths! But when they did the women would wear doubled up aprons made of grasses. The men barlie wore clothing, thet would wear just a tie in their hair! The reason they didn't wear much clothing was because they lived in such a warm climate.

During the winter they would hunt dear and bears for their hide. They would then make capes out of the skin. For special occasions, sometimes just to look nice or when meeting another tribe. The jewlery they would make was out of bones of animals and shells. They would string them on grass fiber. Those were their clothing.

Shelter

They built their Summer houses out of branches tied together covered with leaves. At night the Entrance was covered with bundles of grass tied together. When their houses got dirty they burnt them down. The style is Adope even though they are not made of mud.

Mission

The wappo tribe lived nearest to the the last mission, Mission San Francisco Solano. It was #21. This mission only lasted 11 years until the mission and the rest of the missions were shut down. This mission was founded July 4, 1823 by Father Jose Altimira. Mission San Francisco Solano is nearest to mission #20,it is called Mission San Rafel Arcangel. Not that many Wappo tribe members went to eather mission because of these missions because of there short period, but the Wappo lived free!
