Ready:
This is your chance to tell us a little bit about you! You are the star of this
show! In this lesson we will create a Digital Biography using a WYSIWYG (What
You See is What You Get) webpage editor. Your Web page will look something like
this example
or like this example .
Set:
Along with the links on the Corpus Christi Techonlogy Homegpage,
here are some resources to help you enhance your Web page. You can also use any images you find on the Internet that are appropriate. Just copy them to your iPhoto Library -- this will be demonstrated.
* Clip
Art and Graphics (http://www.usfca.edu/classes/AuthEd/HighSchool/ClipArt/clip_art_library.htm)
* Thesaurus.com (http://www.thesaurus.com/)
* Quoteland.com ( http://www.quoteland.com/index.html)
* Biography.Com (http://www.biography.com/)
Go:
Create your Web page using iWeb.
First open the iWeb application on your computer and create a new site from the 'File' menu. Choose a template style for your biography. Next, give your site a name by changing the site's title to your student number, e.g., 802, 814, 835. Give your one Web page a title of your choice. Both of these skills be demonstrated in class.
Your web page should include:
1. An opening paragraph introducing yourself along with a picture of yourself. In this section you might want to include any school, extracurricular, or community service activities that you participate in.
2. At least three adjectives that best describe you as a person. Access the Web site Thesaurus.Com or Vocabulary.Com and find two more synonyms for each adjective. There is also a thesaurus on your computer. Click on the Dictionary icon in your dock. Type any word into Dictionary and scroll down to the bottom of the results page to find thesaurus entries -- this will also be demonstrated in class.
3. Add a list of 2 or 3 books that you've read recently. See if you can locate them on Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Make a link to the page with a book review. See if you can make a link using the cover art from the book.
4. At Quoteland.com, find a quote that you like and, and place it on your web page, and explain why it's meaningful to you.
5. Using the Biography resources at Discovery.com, locate a hero that you most admire. In a brief paragraph explain what it is that you most admire about that person. Create a link to this site and add to your page a picture or drawing representing your hero if you like.
Your final step will be to publish/export your completed web page.
Go to the 'File' menu and select "Publish to a Folder...". You do not need to give your site a url -- please leave this field blank. Make sure you have your 'desktop' selected and save your web site to that location. Drag and drop that folder with your student number to the 'Drop Box.' File your completed site in your 'Sites' folder in your 'Home Folder.' This will all be demostrated.
