Student Computer Use Rules

1. Abide by the Internet Acceptable Use Policy.

2. No casual or non-educational use of chat rooms on the Internet.

3. All work created on school computers must satisfy copyright law.

  • Pictures, sounds, and written information published on web pages are not reproducible unless express permission is given to copy certain page content.
  • If express permission is not granted from the website, you may obtain it from the page author or owner and show your teacher.

4. Always credit your sources when you borrow content.

  • If you copy work off another website without crediting the source, you are committing plagiarism, and your grade on the work is reduced to a zero according to the school handbook.

5. No last names or photographs of students on your website.

6. You may not put any student's email address on your website.

7. You may not link to websites with inappropriate material.

8. You may not link to websites containing any student's personal information.

  • Such information includes but is not limited to last names, photographs, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses.

9. You may only print content that is for an educational or school purpose.

  • Do not print multiple times if the printer is not responding. Consult a teacher!

10. Share the computers and equipment equitably with your fellow students.

  • No hogging of the same computer every session in the computer lab, for example!

Violations of the rules are punishable according to the severity of the infraction. Minor or unintentional violations such as accidentally posting a last name of a student of a web page would simply cause the offending page to be taken down from the school website temporarily until the page was fixed. Flagrant violations of the Internet Acceptable Use Policy could lead to revocation of computer access privileges, detention, or suspension.
