Love and Serve God and Others
Fourth grade is a year to grow closer in our relationship with God and gain a deeper understanding of His ever-present and loving guidance. Through prayer and instruction students develop a greater appreciation for the Sacraments and are invited to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation where they experience God’s mercy and forgiveness. Students have the opportunity to share their gifts through service to others each Easter as they assemble and deliver Bunny Baskets to the Missionaries of Charity - Queen of Peace Shelter for Women and Children. As leaders of our school Recycling Program, students demonstrate respect for God’s gifts of creation. Students also deepen their knowledge and appreciation of the Mass when they participate in monthly liturgies and/or prayer services as well as lead the school community in the Solemnity of All Saints Mass and a Peacemaker Prayer Service.
Love Learning
Differentiated instructional methods are used to engage students in their daily practice and application of academic skills. A variety of meaningful resources and activities, that are suited to different learning styles and modalities, are implemented to ensure academic success for all students. With the integration of teacher-centered, student-centered, collaborative and independent lessons, fourth graders participate with increasing independence and focus in particular on improving their critical thinking, communication, modeling, reasoning, and overall academic skills. Fourth Grade is a learning experience that enables students to be successful in school and beyond.
Love One’s Self
Fourth Grade is a transitional year that promotes greater accountability and responsibility while also developing organizational and time management skills that are essential life skills . Through the Zones of Regulation curriculum students are led to develop an understanding of how one’s choices affect others, as well as the greater community. Students are encouraged to build both intrapersonal skills (i.e. self-awareness, self-management, self-motivation and understanding one’s own emotions) and interpersonal skills (i.e. empathy, communication, and conflict resolution) which will empower students to become compassionate, supportive, and productive individuals.
