Be Bold, Be Courageous

In a school, there is courage in places you can’t see and places you can. We see it in our student council, when they lead us during the morning assembly. We see it in our teachers, who come to school each day to help us to learn. Each day, we do our best to show courage, but it isn’t always easy. So, what are some ways we can? We can show courage by leading a group in class. We can stand up for a friend when they need some help. We can encourage. We all  show courage somehow and some way.

“There is no living thing that is not afraid when it faces danger. The true courage is in facing danger when you are afraid.”  The Wizard of Oz

This school year has represented big changes for Corpus Christi School. We said goodbye to dear friends and welcomed a new leader, new teachers and new students to our school. Change can be scary as we face new ways of doing things and the fear of the unknown. And also for those coming into an unfamiliar school with unfamiliar ways of doing things and feeling like an outsider. Will they 'fit in', find allies/friends and will others keep an open mind with their new ideas.

Embracing this fear of change and newness by keeping an open mind and trying new things is the first step in being courageous. Take a moment to reflect on what it is like to be new at something or in a new place and the dangers we see lurking in this newness - failure, rejection, not fitting in.

This is an opportunity to move past this fear by embracing change, trying new things and encouraging others who are brave enough to take this journey.  As individuals - this is our chance to be an example for others by standing up for yourself and others, asking for help, speaking up in class, trying something new, embracing your uniqueness.

“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says ‘I’ll try again tomorrow.” ~Mary Anne Radmacher

Each day offers endless possibilities - through trying, failing and trying again - we learn, improve and grow! Be courageous, be brave, and help others along the way!
