Everyday is Earth Day by Sophia (6th grade)

Evergreens tower towards skies and beyond

The brilliant sun arose as morning dawned

Rainforests whisper in the morning breeze

Animals linger in the tops of high trees

Crystal-clear waters cascade over edges of land

Past mossy rocks and banks of sand

Vibrant flowers speckle the ground

Dawn chorus melodies beautifully resound

In the distance, snow capped mountains peak

Wispy clouds encircle its brink

Its snow glistens in the luster of midday

As the crashes of waves echo from the gulf of the bay

But to this paradise, no doubt there’s a downfall:

Humans slowly destroy it all

Thick factory plumes billow into the sky

Infiltrating all critters within nature’s eye

Litter and sludge carelessly flow into the ocean

And act as death traps and grave-welcoming potions

Nuclear power plants penetrate all life

Reducing blood cells and increasing extinction [rife]

But we understood our brutal fumble

And we didn’t fall down after our stumble

Instead we prospered and learned from our mistakes

Reviving all glorious land and magnificent lakes

Participating in volunteer beach cleanups

Picking up non-degradable materials and littered plastic cups

Putting our best effort into riding bikes

To decrease air pollution when it spikes

Earth Day is a special day to focus on revitalizing nature

Sustaining dying plants and hopeless creatures

Let’s strive for a Clean Earth so all life can flourish

Where every little life is satisfied and cherished!
